Chameleon Hill Lodge is a unique and beautiful lodging set atop a ridge overlooking Lake Mutanda, in the highlands of Kisoro, Southwestern Uganda. The lodge commands striking views across the Lake & its lush green Islands, and a breathtaking backdrop of the Volcanoes of the Virunga Mountain Ranges in the distance.
Its iconic towering castles stand out in the lush green of the highlands, visible from so far – like the fairytale castles. The lodge lives up to its name, Chameleon, by an array of bright colors that each building is painted in a different color. It is little wonder that its coloring scheme is motivated by the king of colors – Chameleons, which are known to inhibit this area around Lake Mutanda.
Facilities & Services
The lodge has a lobby that is housed by the first castle. It is your arrival spot, where you are served a drink to sooth and relax after the bumpy drive. The staff is very welcoming and some of the most hospitable you will come across in Uganda.
The main building, right after the lobby houses the restaurant and bar. The restaurant serves 3 meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner – that include a host of international and local delicacies. The chef presents a menu for the meals of the day, and other available options for visitors that may prefer something else. Hot tea is available all throughout the day to tame the cold of the Kigezi Highlands. The bar is well stocked with renowned brands of wines, spirits and beers.
Next is a lounge, fitted with sofas and cushions, a fire place and mini library. It is a perfect place to relax during the cold evenings and read an informative book about Uganda and travel in Africa. The Lounge also has clear views of Lake Mutanda, highlands and the Virungas.
Extending from the main building is a large deck, an excellent location to step out and take in all the magnificent scenery while you enjoy a drink.
Down to the accommodation, there are 10 chalets, call them cottages, painted differently and spaced to ensure maximum privacy. 5 of them are Doubles/Singles, and 5 are twins. Each chalet is fully self contained with amenities – shower, flush toilet, washbowl, and own veranda with excellent views across Lake Mutanda & the Virunga Volcanoes.
Electricity is by a generator that is switched on at 7pm till 10.30pm. Sockets are abundant around the lodge for you to power and charge your electronics with ease.
Security is maximum, with ever present police officers provided by the Uganda Tourism Police, and a private security guard by the lodge.
