The Kazinga Channel is a 40km natural stream of water joining Lakes Edward and George, situated within the spectacular Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is relatively shallow with the depth averaging between 3 – 4 meters, the deepest end estimated at 8meters.
The Kazinga Channel harbors a huge population of hippos and crocodiles. On a typical hot day, the banks attract a profusion of big game, that come to drink, cool off, shower & eat the fresh grass along the channel. Elephants, Buffaloes, Monitor Lizards, Antelopes are common, while the predators like Lions, Leopards, Hyenas do appear but briefly, mainly for a drink.
For both the keen birder and enthusiast the Kazinga Channel is a bird haven! Even the none birder will be amazed by the sheer abundance of birds in different sizes and colors thriving in harmony along the channel. It is in fact believed that Kazinga Channel hosts more bird species than the entire North America! Some of the common birds include Pied Kingfishers, Malachite Kingfisher, Cormorants, Pelicans, Fish Eagles, Skimmers, Terns, Gulls, Ducks, etc..

They lie in the mud with their backs to the water and heads focused towards the bush as the only possible source of predators such as Lions.
